This memento has been erected at the top of the Into the Valley section of the Deadwater trail, to commemorate the efforts of the Kielder Trail Reavers volunteers over a 20 year period.
Kielder Trail Reavers were set up back in 2005 as a charitable volunteer group to help design and build the very first mountain bike trails in Kielder Forest. Initially the Skills Loop near the car park was hand built, and then as Forestry England obtained funds to start building the first MTB trail (Deadwater) the volunteers helped scope out the route and were involved with some hand built sections.
This trail put Kielder on the MTB map, and riders arrived in increasing numbers to use this new trail.
Following the success of the Deadwater red grade trail, the blue grade Osprey trail and a second red trail (Lonesome Pine) were planned and the route and design was put together with the help of the KTR volunteers.
Once these were machine built, the volunteers helped with hand finishing and maintenance over time. They also managed to hand build two further sections (Capon Hassock 1 & 2) to add some unique features to the Lonesome Pine trail.
